Their Story
In 2016, Debra and John Erickson’s world irrevocably changed when Debra was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a disease that relentlessly scars the lungs, turning every breath into a daunting struggle. Debra, with a career in nursing spanning over four decades, has been a pillar of compassion and care, profoundly affecting countless lives. John, equally dedicated to a life of service, has honored his commitment through service for our country in the Navy and currently as a pastor at the Lake Almanor Community Church, guiding and supporting his community with a strong faith and kindness. Together, they stand as beloved figures: Debra, a cherished wife of 39 years to John, a loving daughter, a mother to two adored children, and a grandmother whose family forms the essence of her world. Despite leading a life defined by health and care for others, Debra now confronts the most formidable battle of her life against IPF.
The Challenge
The year 2023 brought a severe escalation in Debra’s condition, with her disease progressing at an alarming pace. Now, a lung transplant represents Debra's chance for a return to a semblance of normalcy — to breathe without duress, to speak without pausing for air, and to move without the shadow of exhaustion. But this opportunity brings overwhelming financial demands, including the surgical costs, essential post-operative care, and the lifelong medications necessary for survival. John and Debra face these daunting challenges arm in arm, their journey emblematic of their strong faith in God who has, and will, provide their needs as they wait for the miracle of new pair of lungs.
How You Can Help
We reach out to you — our extended community of friends, acquaintances, and those moved by Debra’s story — to solicit your prayers and financial support. Your generous contributions will help defray the out-of-pocket medical costs associated with Debra's lung transplant, allowing her and John to focus on combatting IPF and the journey toward recovery without the added burden of financial strain. Specifically, your donations will support:
• The lung transplant surgery expenses
• Travel and accommodation for treatment as they will be required to live in San Francisco for at least three months to stay close to UCSF
• Post-operative care and necessary medications
A Lifetime of Giving Back

Despite the trials presented by this devastating disease, their trust in Jesus, bolstered by the love of family and friends, remains unbroken.
It’s our opportunity to reciprocate the kindness Debra and John have shown throughout their lives. Your support will make it possible for Debra to continue her journey of faith and service to others and also enjoy more precious moments with her beloved family and friends.
Every donation, no matter its size, brings Debra closer to the life-saving lung transplant she urgently needs. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and compassion during this critical time.
