BOIL WATER ADVISORY AND UPDATES

Boil Water Advisory - Cle.pdf

Boil Water Updates:

6-6-2026 After spending all day Friday inside the springhouse retrieving what we initially thought was the issue for the boil water notice, we discovered that two beavers/otters had made a home inside the springhouse.

After making multiple calls throughout the day, we were finally able to locate a trapper. However, before any removal can take place, we must first obtain a depredation permit through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, formerly known as Fish and Game. We have been advised that this is not a quick process.

Additionally, if the animals are confirmed to be otters, they are a protected species, and the permitting/removal process could take a little longer.

We understand this is frustrating and inconvenient, and we are doing everything we can to move the process forward as quickly and safely as possible. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

We would like to thank Hamilton Branch and Westwood for their assistance, as well as the community members who offered to help. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

6-10-26 Boil Water Notice Update

On Sunday, the Lassen County biologist came out and inspected the spring house. At that time, the beavers/otters were no longer inside, and we were advised to close up the opening where they had been getting in.

Today, the State Water Resources Control Board came out and inspected the spring house as well. We also completed some additional cleanup. The State Water Board wants the water to flow for a bit before testing is done.

We are now waiting for approval to retest. Once testing is completed and we receive official clearance, we will update the community right away.

Until then, the boil water notice remains in place. Please continue to follow the current boil water instructions until the District is officially notified that the notice can be lifted. The State Water Board provides public-notice templates for drinking-water systems, and boil-water notices should not be lifted until the issue has been addressed and required testing/clearance is complete.

6-14-26 Waiting  on the state to okay retesting. Can’t retest or lift order until we receive approval from the State.
6-17-26 Main break was repaired, water restored. Boil water remains in effect until further notice. June 18, 2026

6-18-26 The water main break has been repaired.

The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect and has not been lifted. Residents should continue to boil water until an official notice is posted stating the advisory has ended.

Clear Creek CSD is continuing to work through the required flushing, testing, and clearance process in coordination with the appropriate regulatory agency.

There is no additional change in status at this time. Updates will be posted on the District website as new information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience while District personnel continue working to complete the required process.

6-19-26 The boil water advisory remains in effect. Customer should continue to boil water used for drinking, food preparation,  brushing teeth and making ice until an official notice is issued stating that the advisory has been lifted. As stated in yesterday's update water service has been restored following the water main damage associated with the water system improvement project. The main has been repaired, the system has been flushed, and the CCCSD is monitoring chlorine residual throughout the distribution system, including at the farthest points in the system. Current chlorine residuals at the farthest points in the system are 2.0. CCCSD is continuing to monitor the bacteriological quality of the spring source in the distribution system. The next planned samples, including one from the spring and one from the distribution system, are expected to be collected next week and coordination with the division of drinking water. CCCSD is also continuing work to protect the spring box from possible animal entry. The spring box is constructed among large rocks, which creates openings and pathways that can be difficult to fully seal. CCCSD is working to close potential entry points and prevent future contamination. As an added public health precaution, CCCSD is maintaining chlorine residuals at levels directed by the division of drinking water. The division has provided direction regarding the required minimum chlorine residual, and how those residuals must be monitored and reported. The boil water advisory will main effect until the corrective actions, monitoring, and required bacteriological testing supports cancellation of the advisory. The division of drinking water will review the information and determine when the advisory may be lifted. CCCSD's water system improvement project is currently underway. This project includes improvements to the spring box and chlorination system, which are intended to improve source protection and system reliability. CCCSD will continue to post updates as new information becomes available. Thank you for your patience while the district personnel continue working through this process.

06/25/2026

The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect. Customers should continue to boil water used for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, and making ice until an official notice is issued stating that the advisory has been lifted.

CCCSD is continuing to monitor the bacteriological quality of the spring source and the distribution system. The most recent samples were collected on June 23, 2026, and additional samples are planned for June 30, 2026.

To date, no coliform bacteria or E. coli have been found in samples collected from the distribution system. However, E. coli is still being detected in the spring source. The most recent spring sample showed E. coli at 1 MPN. This is lower than the prior spring results collected on June 4 and June 16, but E. coli is still present in the source water.

CCCSD has taken steps to reduce the potential for animal entry into the spring house and continues to work with the Division of Drinking Water regarding corrective actions, monitoring, and disinfection requirements.

This process is taking time because the spring must not be directly disinfected such that chlorinated water would be discharged to Dry Creek.  Discharging chlorinated water to the creek could create environmental impacts and potential issues with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Because of this, CCCSD is allowing the spring source to recover naturally after cleanup and source-protection work, while continuing to monitor water quality.

As stated in the June 19, 2026 update, CCCSD is maintaining chlorine residuals at levels directed by the Division of Drinking Water. CCCSD monitors chlorine residuals daily. The current chlorine concentration at the farthest point in the system is 2.74mg/L.

The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until the corrective actions, monitoring, and required bacteriological testing support cancellation of the advisory. The Division of Drinking Water will review the information and determine when the advisory may be lifted.

CCCSD understands the inconvenience this advisory has caused and is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. However, the advisory will not be lifted until the Division of Drinking Water determines that it is appropriate to do so.
